Aerogel represents what technology experts consider the best insulation material ever invented. It can be endlessly resused. It weighs virtually nothing. It’s flexible. It’s translucent. And, it can hold up under temperatures of 3,000 Fahrenheit. Aerogels have unsurpassed thermal insulation values, as well as sound and shock absorption characteristics.
To manufacture Bluedec, aerogel is impregnated into a textile fabric through a complex process. This results in a flexible blanket with, among other things, an extremely low thermal conductivity (? = 0.0135 to 0.017 W/m.K at 20°C), applicable within a temperature range of – 271 to 650°C).
In addition, the material is water-repellent and vapour permeable, easy to cut or trim to size and can be glued directly to a substrate. This makes it suitable for many applications, both indoors and outdoors.
