Orms’ conceptual design was guided by the bold idea of choosing to renovate the existing building rather than demolish it, which would have had a significant impact on the building’s carbon footprint. To accommodate its new function, Orms designed a contrasting new three-story steel and glass addition. Its redesigned façade entrances and reinstated public garden provide a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Euston Road, as well as a new permanent east-west route for pedestrians and cyclists.
